Sacraments

Home  /  Sacraments

A visible sign instituted by Christ by which invisible grace is communicated to the soul.

Sacraments are real encounters with God.

There are seven Sacraments in the Catholic Faith.

Every Sacrament has a “past, a present and a future.”

The past is where the sacrament originates from in scripture, the present is the ritual the day it is celebrated & the future is how you live it.

Baptism

Baptisms are held at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, St. Leo the Great Church. To schedule a Baptism and Baptism preparation class please call the parish office at 203-756-7919.

Reconciliation

Confessions are heard every Saturday at Mary, Mother of the Church / St. Leo the Great Church from 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM.

Eucharist (Holy Communion)

As Catholics, we fully participate in the celebration of the Eucharist when we receive Holy Communion. We are encouraged to receive Communion devoutly and frequently. In order to be properly disposed to receive Communion, participants should not be conscious of grave sin and normally should have fasted for one hour. First Holy Communion is celebrated by children in the 2nd grade (after completion of one year of Faith Formation preparation).

Confirmation

Students in grade 10 receive the sacrament of Confirmation after 2 years of preparation.  Adults are also welcome to be confirmed after completing the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) if they have not yet received the sacrament of Confirmation.

Holy Orders

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a priest we invite you to contact the Vocations Director, Fr. Anthony Federico, (860) 761-7456. You may also visit the Archdiocese of Hartford’s Office of Vocations and Seminarians’ website: https://www.hartfordpriest.com.

Matrimony

Couples contemplating marriage are asked to contact the rectory at least 6 months in advance of their desired wedding date. Don’t book your reception until you’ve spoken with with us at the church!

Anointing of the Sick

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is administered to bring spiritual and even physical strength during an illness of body or mind. It is a rite that is performed to convey God’s grace to the recipient through the power of the Holy Spirit. Please call the rectory if you or a loved one are in need of this sacrament.
